Silk + Smoke is a new Scotland-based literary magazine accepting worldwide submissions of odd and transgressive short stories, poems, scripts, and pieces of creative nonfiction.
Our favourite genres include (but are not limited to) horror, sci-fi, fantasy, historical fiction, absurdism, dystopia, and magical realism. As we are based in Scotland, we would, of course, love to see submissions written in Scots, too.
Fortune favours the bold, so we ask writers to submit their work in its raw, uncompromised form – not bent to fit a particular theme or subject matter.
We especially encourage emerging, unpublished writers to submit their work to us and we accept images (e.g. concrete or blackout poetry) and audio/video recordings (e.g. performance pieces) which accompany text submissions, too. You can read more about our submission guidelines, here.
Silk + Smoke also has a writers blog where we post bi-weekly resource articles for writers on topics like ‘the best podcasts and vlogs on writing’ to ‘how to create a writing schedule you can actually stick to’.
You can sign up to our mailing list to get updates on when submissions open and when we will be entering our publication cycle.
Silk + Smoke is not currently funded by any arts organisations or charitable bodies and does not generate any revenue. While this is the case, we, unfortunately, cannot pay our writers.
As we grow, we hope to attain funding which will allow us to pay our writers for their work and (fingers crossed) produce a print edition.
If you have any questions about submissions, guest blogging, or anything else that comes to mind, get in touch.
